I am slogging through Mass Effect 2 on Insanity difficulty to get the last 2 achievements I have left and am rapidly running out of motivation. It’s not really difficult, just going really slow. 8 hours in and I am only at Horizon and dreading doing the Praetoran fight. Have a Mako for automotive related content.

I left my 360 at my girlfriends place...:(. I started from scratch and did most of the character missions on 2.

Depends on the game. But I couldn’t do Mass Effect on normal, let alone the hardest difficulty. Godspeed.

It’s not really hard but it forces you to take a “kill them with bug bites” approach. I love Mass Effect for the story, not the combat so having combat slowed to a crawl really wears on me.

Insanity is the best way to play ME2!
You can make it so much fun by going Vanguard with full shield recharge on the charge ability, along with that 1-shot-per-magazine shotgun. You can zip around and be almost invincible as long as there is someone in the room you can charge at.

Yeah, I think I was four hours in when I went “I don’t care about the story, I hate the gameplay” and gave up. The combat in that game is not great.

I’m playing on my Xbox One through backwards compatibility right now. I also own the trilogy on PC. Its my favorite game series of all time and I must be close to 1000 hours logged across all 4 games.

Mass Effect 1 hasn’t aged well at all. It takes quite a bit to get going (you don’t really get into it until 8-10 hours in). Mass Effect 2 and 3 have much better gameplay and while 2 is also a bit slow on the pacing 3 does a great job of getting the story going right off the bat and keeping it going. 3 is my favorite in the series above 2.

Its not hard, just going really slow compared to a normal playthrough.

Huh, interesting. 3 usually gets shat on solely because of the ending.
In my opinion, if something takes eight or ten hours to get you either interested or caring or whatever (in terms of media), it’s not worth it to me.

The original ending to 3 was rather bad and counteracted previously established lore. They released an extended cut a few months after release which fixed that. My only issue is that they try to answer too many questions in the ending which makes it a bit clunky. Its strange to go from not being able to get any information on where the Reapers came from and why they are here in 3 games to getting a dump of information explaining everything. It kills the mystery and I would have preferred if they didn’t explain everything. The 30 hours leading up to that information dump are amazing though. To me 3 is more about the world story while 2 kinda forgets about the world and is about the characters. 2's core story is rather unimportant to the rest of the trilogy but it does introduce some great characters. That’s why I prefer 3 over 2.

Do you have the Citadel expansion for ME3? Every time I decide to pick up the game again I get to the end of the party then I’m just like “fuck everything else, I just wanna do the Citadel stuff again”

I have the 360 version of the Trilogy, but somehow it doesnt play on the One (no backwards compatibility?) It is my favourite as well. I cant think of any other game that has such an intense storymode and such good gameplay. Gears of War and Halo come to mind, but are not that good IMO.

I do. Easily my favorite piece of writing in all of video games and I would never play ME3 without it again.

You should just be able to put in the disk (disk one for ME2 and 3) and it will install like an Xbox One game would. All 3 games have backwards compatibility support as of November 2016.
For me Mass Effect is the game series that I play to just get lost in the world with the characters. No other game I have played provides that kind of escape for me.

I picked Solider and facerolled through ME2 on Insanity(because Solider is easymode). Right up until I ran up against my clone. Literally took me 8-10 hours over 3 days to beat him. I rage-quit the first 2 days, then sat down and destroyed him on the first try on day 3. Turns out the answer was grenade spam. I had thrown maybe 10 grenades until that point in the game. I threw at least 50 at my clone.

I don’t know why you would play on insane difficulty. I guess it would be rewarding to finish but I would definitely put my controller through my tv after hour 10. I just know I would.

For over a year and a half I have only had 2 achievements remaining, Lair of the Shadow Broker on Hardcore or higher, and completing the game on insanity. I decided in December I was going to get those last 2 achievements.

Clone? Your clone is part of the Citadel DLC for Mass Effect 3. And I will admit that clone fight is a bitch, even on normal difficulty.

The Mass Effect series was one of my favorites. I would put it above Halo and Gears or War in many aspects because, like you said in another comment, it’s one where you can just get lost in the world around you. I’ve never played a game where I got so immersed in the world itself.
I haven’t played the newest one, though, because it seemed like it was going to be a huge letdown and I don’t want to spoil it.

I picked up Andromeda at launch and I liked it. It wasn’t as good as ME2 or 3 but I still enjoyed it and will be replaying it once I finish this insanity run.

I may eventually pick it up just to see how it is. I remember being so excited at first when I heard it was coming out and then getting so disappointed after hearing others talk about it. Maybe I should give it the benefit of the doubt.
And I know people give 3 shit because of the ending, but damn that was such a good game overall.

For some reason I thought that was ME2. I’ve done Insanity on all 3 of them as a Solider and the Clone fight was the only one that really gave me a hard time. I can easily see that using other classes it would be a pain the ass, but oddly the clone fight is much, much easier as not a Solider.
To be fair, its always a Solider that has sniping abilities(or it is in ME2 & 3), so it’s super-cheaty.

While it wasn’t an instant classic the hate for Andromeda was blown well out of proportion.
I don’t get the hate for 3 either. In my opinion it is the best game in the series. The ending suffers from trying to answer too many questions but other than that 3 is a better game than 2 which has a weak main story (but does get props for the character development it does).

I might do the main story of 3 on insanity at some point but I probably wont bother doing it in ME1.

The least annoying way to do it in one is as a second or preferably 3rd playthough on a character so you can start out with high-spec spectre gear and just stick to the main quest to keep the time-sink aspect of it down.

I completely agree with you on 3. They tried to do way too much in a very short span and left things on the table. Even so, still an excellent game.

When you sink almost 900 hours into a trilogy you eventually end up with most of the achievements.

I find that when the game gets harder you’re more aware of its flaws and balancing issues. For example in the original race driver grid the opponents had too much weight, if they blindly turned into you you’d always spin and they wouldn’t.
I’d rather play easy and enjoy myself

I totally prefer to play on the lower difficulties and enjoy the story. Giving every enemy either armor, shields or barriers on Insanity just points out how useless standard weapons are against them.

Marathon 2 Durandal is hard enough on normal. Can’t imagine on hard mode. In all seriousness I wish Destiny 2 had difficulty levels, as I find patrols and heroic strikes to be too easy, that being said I have yet to finish a nightfall strike on solo but only because of the timer, which I believe they will be removing soon.
